What a valuation from us is
A considered opinion of what your catamaran would realistically achieve in this market, in this region, in the next few months — with the comparables we used and the reasoning behind the number. Not an instant algorithm, and not a figure designed to flatter you into a listing.
What we look at
- Recent closed sales of the same model and near neighbours, weighted towards boats sold in the Caribbean rather than a national average.
- Age and generation. A model refresh changes the value of everything that came before it, sometimes sharply.
- Specification. Owner versus charter layout, generator, watermaker, air conditioning, solar, electronics, dinghy and outboard. These move the number more than most owners expect.
- Condition and history. Rigging age, sail inventory, engine hours and service records, canvas, gelcoat, and whether she has been in charter.
- Where she is lying, and how easy it is for a buyer to get to her.
- What else is on the market right now. Three of the same model listed locally changes your position, and so does being the only one.
Honest limits
A desk valuation is a starting point, not a survey. Nobody can price the things you only find with a moisture meter and a haul-out, and a serious buyer will do both. If we have not been aboard, we will say what our figure assumes, so you know which parts of it are solid and which depend on what we find.
