Lagoon under power

Lagoon is best known for sail, but it has built motor catamarans for a long time — the Power 43 and Power 44 predate the current line by years. The modern range is a different proposition altogether: the SIXTY and EIGHTY series are large motor yachts that happen to have two hulls, drawn by the same VPLP partnership that has shaped every Lagoon since 1984.

Why a power catamaran rather than a monohull

The twin-hull platform buys three things a single-hull motor yacht of the same length cannot easily match. It sits still at anchor, which matters more than anything else when you are living aboard. It draws very little, so the shallow bays in the BVI open up. And the beam gives you interior and deck volume that would need a far longer monohull to equal.

What you give up is the rig — and with it the ability to shut the engines down and keep going. Fuel becomes the running cost that matters. For owners who value arriving on schedule, entertaining aboard, and simple operation over the sailing itself, that is usually the right trade.

What we see in the islands

The motor range is deliberately short: two boats. The SIXTY 7 is where most owners start, and it is the one you actually see moving between the Virgins. The EIGHTY 3 is superyacht-scale and is ordered rather than found — if you want one, it begins with a conversation and a delivery slot, not a listing.

Worth knowing: the SIXTY 5 and EIGHTY 2 share these hull platforms but carry a rig, so they sit in the sailing range rather than here. The number is the whole difference.
